How Our Sales Process & People Are Different
Our “salespeople” aren’t called “salespeople”. We don’t have a sales department. Our team doesn’t work on commission, and you’ll work with your contact at Tech Soft 3D for as long as you use our SDKs. All of this is a little outside the norm, and we want to take some time to explain why we operate the way we do and what it will mean for you.
First, we will discuss the relationship we try to create with your organization, and how that informs our entire sales experience. Then, we will highlight the key differences in our “sales” team structure and why we do it that way.
A Strategic Technology Partnership
One of the first phrases you'll hear when learning about Tech Soft 3D is the “Strategic Technology Partnership.” This model of building a carefully calculated, long-term, collaborative professional relationship is at the heart of everything we do.
When we work together, we do a lot more than send you some code and wish you luck. We are going to be there throughout the entire duration of our relationship. We provide a very hands-on relationship from the moment you start your evaluation of our technologies, when you choose to license our tools we are there to support your team as you take your product to market and throughout your time working with us by providing updates and the support you deserve. Even our pricing for our products is centered around the idea of us succeeding together.
Partnership Instead of Sales
The individuals who are on the front lines to our partners and prospective partners are called Partner Development Managers, or PDMs. This distinction is more than just an internal label - it defines the differences in their responsibilities, goals, and even pay to a more traditional sales team.
The job of our PDMs is not simply to assist you in finding and licensing the right product for you. When you work with Tech Soft 3D, the PDM is your primary point of contact for the duration you are working with our company. They will work to genuinely understand your technical and business requirements, your processes and workflows, and how we can support the short-term and long-term goals of your products.
We want our team to serve as an extension of your own. The core values of our organizations should align, and we should create a mutually beneficial agreement that ensures both of us succeed. This is what our PDMs are equipped to facilitate in each of the partnerships they build. They do far more than simply sell.
Supporting you is at the core of their responsibilities, and our hiring process ensures that each individual who works with our partners has aligning goals to ensure mutually successful partnerships.
Collaboration vs. Competition - Why We Don’t Have Commission
As mentioned, a huge part of our PDMs' jobs is working with their existing partners. They are “account managers” as well as “salespeople”, and we make sure every part of their job reflects that. One part of how we do this is by our pay structure, we don’t have sales commissions at Tech Soft 3D. What? Yes, no commissions.
Commission can encourage salespeople to push through deals that may not be ideal for either party. When pay is determined by how many deals you get over the line, support often becomes an afterthought, and salespeople may not pass a deal on to a colleague who is better suited to work with them because they want the “credit”. When you describe sales, words like “ruthless” and “be a shark” are thrown around a lot, especially when selling software, Software as a Service (SaaS), and even software development kits. This is the antithesis of how we want our partnerships to work.
We have a strong, diverse team of PDMs with vastly different backgrounds and areas of specialty. We have team members who have been here 10 years, 16 years, 25 years, and more. All of them have strong professional networks to tap into, previous experience in relevant industries, and know their job is far more than just sales.
A core part of what we offer is working to understand your organization, what makes it unique, what your goals and requirements are, and how that will impact how we support you. If the PDM who initially talks with you isn’t the best fit to do that, they will find the person who is.
At Tech Soft 3D, we are selective about who we bring on as partners. We don’t force through deals that aren’t going to work for everyone involved. This shows in our average partnership length, which is 13 years and counting. Ideally, we are going to be working together for a long time, and a bad fit would be a waste of both of our time and resources.
We strive to make sure your requirements and our products are the right fit for each other, for the benefit of everyone involved.. We succeed when you succeed, and we want to empower our PDMs to create relationships that benefit both of our organizations in the long term, not simply getting over the finish line.
